Christmas/New Years 2016

A GREAT ROAD, BY THE OCEAN!

5pm on the 25th of December 2016, 4 maniacs (Cam, Charlene, Alecia and Heidi) will buckle up and stare down 12+ hours of blacktop towards Bundanoon, NSW.

Haven’t heard of Bundanoon? Nor had I until a few months ago.  Bundanoon is located about two hours south-west of Sydney.  bundyIt is a mere spec on the map, located in the Southern Highlands, famous for its country weekenders.

Bundy (as it is referred to) is the home of Cliff and Cathy, Charlenes’ Dad and Step mum.

We will spend the day and night of the 26th here, leaving about lunchtime on the 27th.

With 791 NSW and Victorian kilometres in front of us, the 27th of December will be scenic and enjoyable.
Today we weave our way South West towards Ballarats’ Miners Retreat Motel, to the sound track of multiple Disney movies.

A short stop at Gundagai, and perhaps Seymore, then finally our days end, Ballarat. Time for the weary to rest and recharge for tomorrows busy, fun-filled day!

The 28th of December will finally be a short driving day.  Today we visit Sovereign Hill, a gold mining theme park.
We four will dig, mine, pan, eat and explore in either 40º or 4º weather!

Finishing up day four will see a short 262km into the seaside town of Portland, the western end, and start of our Great Ocean Road Journey.  All tucked in at the William Dutton Motel Portland, we are excited to meet up with the Resuggan and Matthews families tomorrow.

BRING IT ON!

The Great Ocean Road is possibly on the bucket list of most, but has sat very high and seemingly unattainable on mine for a long time.
As I write this, still six days away from the start of this particular drive, I can barely contain my widening smile and the excitement brewing in my body.

An early start on the 29th sees the three vehicles and 10 members of our traveling party meet up for coffee/juice by the water in Portland.
With toilets visited, route discussions (arguments) had, and Warrnambool firmly in our sites, we reposition our backsides ready to start the GREAT OCEAN ROAD.
